Eating Like Kings at Vikings

I love buffets because I can stuff myself with salmon sashimi until I can’t take it anymore. Haha. Thanks to Deal Grocer, I scored a Vikings Saturday lunch at a lower rate. I wish other group buying sites would offer irresistible deals like this one. I still haven’t tried a couple of buffet establishments in the metro like Makati Shangri-La’s Circles lunch/dinner at EDSA Shangri-La‘s Heat and stand-alone eat-all-you-can restaurants like Buffet 101.

Anyway, I did eat salmon sashimi to my heart’s content during Saturday lunch. It was rainy that time but it did not stop people from going to Vikings to, well, eat a lot.

Prior to our lunch, we already made a survey on the Web just to find out what’s worth getting and what’s there that can be skipped. In true OC fashion, I came up with a list so that I don’t miss anything (the beer part’s a joke—they serve Tiger beer on weekends).

I made a beeline for this pudding-like concotion called Chawan Mushi. It reminds me of salted egg.

They also serve Angus beef on weekends, and it was a mistake to eat this early on in the game because it easily made me feel full. Wrong move. The Hainanese rice on the other hand was far from being simmered in chicken broth.

My next plate was mostly from Chinese and Japanese cuisines. I had a helping of chicken feet, xiao long bao, siomai and chili garlic sauce.

I like my oysters steamed, so I’m not the best taste judge of these baked ones.

Vikings serves hotpot as well. Just leave your order at the counter and they would serve it to you in these huge bowls.

If you happen to swing by Vikings, make sure you leave some room for dessert. They’re known for their frozen yogurt (which was not available when we ate there, meh), but the taho eased my irritation. They say the bibingka and puto bumbong are worth a try, but I skipped those because I can’t take it anymore. Haha.

I’m still at a loss whether I liked the buffet or not. Perhaps I was overwhelmed, and the price is higher than most buffet places due to variety. Maybe I like the grill+eat-all-you-can combo of Yakimix and Sambokojin more. But with a competitor at the other end of the stretch, it seems like buffets like this one will stay—variety outside a hotel setting.

Think of what you’re gonna use it for so you can decide! :) I tested S3 and it was different for me ha. Iba na rin kasi siguro yung OS interface. Para silang magpinsan. They’re similar but not really.
