I can finally relate because I watched the Azkals game against Sri Lanka for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers at the Rizal Memorial Stadium today.
Traffic was crazy so we had to walk a couple of meters to reach the stadium on time. The geek and I were mindlessly following people, thinking they know the way. We kept on walking, walking and walking until I instinctively looked to my left and saw a familiar face. We exchanged smiles and it dawned on me that the pretty girl was no less than Angel Locsin! For a split second I considered she remembered me from my ABS-CBN days, but I pushed the thought aside because that was three years ago. It was so funny, I swear. Someone approached her and said, “Ma’am, meron na po ba kayong ticket?” I really doubt she doesn’t have a ticket, you guys, unless you have been living under a rock for the past six months and not know that Angel and Phil are linked to each other.
And then it hit us that our gate is located on the other side of the oval, so we had to walk all the way back to find our entrance. It suddenly rained. Yes, a few seconds after Angel Locsin went inside the stadium. Amazing. I kind of felt bad for myself, though. Angel Locsin na nga siya tapos ako naligo sa pagkalakas-lakas na ulan! Haha. The rain was comparable to a shower, my goodness. I’m not even fond of this football thing and I ended up like a true blue basang sisiw! Very thankful that they won, else that “running in the rain” moments are put to waste.
Most of the audience were so game in making “waves” and passing the flag, but if there is one thing I wish Pinoys can get out of their system is the tendency to boo at the smallest things. And one thing so Pinoy about today’s game is the Pinoy Big Brother theme song played nonstop!
Watching a football game is fun but I like the thrill of basketball more. It seems to me that the game is quite slow-paced? I guess this is for people who really like the sport or is crushing on an Azkal. Don’t take my word for it as I find watching tennis entertaining for hours and there’s not much happening inside the tennis court. Needless to say, I had fun.
